There are deeper levels of self awareness, of conversation, and of relationship intimacy many aren’t accessing. Because we weren’t taught. We weren’t modeled or taught these things. Our education system completely ignores the human experience (even psychology classes rarely break down the nitty gritty of communication in relationships) and many of us stumble into adulthood without a clue.
Self awareness, and being honest with ourselves so we can be honest with our partners is the foundation of good communication.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But when we’ve experienced trauma, our nervous systems can go into fight, flight, or freeze which can make implementing communication skills challenging.
